It All Started with a Trip, a Frustration... and an Idea That Seemed Impossible
Some Stories Begin in a Garage. Others in a Big Office. The Story of GuTravel Began in Budapest, Midway Through a Trip, and a Feeling That Many Travellers Know All Too Well: "This Place Is Gorgeous... But What Exactly Am I Looking At?"
This is the story of how three lifelong friends turned a casual idea into an app that's changing the way people travel. Spoiler alert: None of them saw it coming.
Just like superheroes keep their true identities under wraps, from now on, you’ll know us as: Boston, Singapore, and Rome.

Boston: The First Spark of GuTravel
It All Starts When Boston's Girlfriend Goes on a Trip to Budapest
The story kicks off when Boston's girlfriend heads off to Budapest. During her time in the city, she falls in love with its beauty... but returns with a bittersweet feeling. She tells Boston that, while she adored the city, there were many moments of frustration: she passed by stunning statues, impressive monuments, and historic squares... but had no idea what any of them were.
To make matters worse, when there was any explanation, it was only in Hungarian.
That’s when the lightbulb went off for Boston: "What if there was an app where, with just a photo of a monument, it could tell you what it is and share an interesting story about it?"
The problem? He saw it as one of those ideas that sounds great in your head but seems impossible to bring to life.
And that’s where Singapore comes into the picture.
Singapore: The One Who Believed It Was Possible
A Few Weeks Later, the Three Lifelong Friends — Boston, Singapore, and Rome — Met for Dinner
Amid laughter, anecdotes, and a beer or two, Boston's girlfriend says, "Tell them about that idea you came up with from my trip to Budapest."
And Boston casually tosses it out, almost as a joke, not thinking much of it.
But Singapore stopped and thought… "What if it’s not that impossible? What if we can actually make this happen?"
And just like that, over a simple dinner, what we now know as GuTravel began to take shape.
Rome: The One Who Completed the Perfect Team
With Boston's Spark and Singapore's Belief, What Was Missing Was Someone Who Could Bring Ideas, Creativity, and Above All, a Lot of Determination
That was Rome. When he found out what his two friends were up to, he didn’t hesitate for a moment to join the project. Together, the three of them began shaping an idea that was increasingly seeming less impossible... and much more real.
And that’s how GuTravel was born: the app that allows any traveller to instantly discover what they're looking at, simply by taking a photo of a monument, statue, painting, or even a natural element.
But the story didn’t end there. Because there was still one important detail missing: the logo.
The Origin of the GuTravel Logo: Another Great Story (and Another Saving Girlfriend)
At First, the GuTravel Logo Was Going to Be a Crane. A Migratory Bird, Closely Tied to the Concept of Travel.
But there was a problem: it didn’t quite convey what the app actually did.
And then, enter Singapore's girlfriend again, with yet another one of those brilliant ideas that would change the course of the project.
— "What if the logo was the Statue of Liberty taking a selfie?"
Boom.
A simple yet genius idea. An iconic image, recognisable all over the world, that perfectly combined the two core pillars of GuTravel: monuments + technology.
And that’s how the logo that now represents GuTravel was born.
